Unit Number in Qatar: Meaning, Examples & 5 Mistakes to Avoid
A unit number in Qatar identifies one specific apartment, office or shop inside a building. It is different from the building number, which identifies the whole building. When you register your National Address, the form shows a Unit box, and the Ministry of Interior (MOI) says the unit number is not mandatory. This guide explains what to enter for your unit number in Qatar, what to do if your home has no unit number, and how a unit number differs from a building number.
Is the Unit Number in Qatar Mandatory?
According to the MOI National Address FAQ, no: the Qatar National Address unit number is not mandatory. The question asks what the unit number box means after residence data is registered, and the answer is that the unit number is “not mandatory now.” The FAQ page is undated, and the word “now” suggests the rule may have changed at some point. If you want to be sure, check the current FAQ on the MOI portal.
The Metrash app points the same way. In the National Address form we checked, Zone, Building, Kahramaa and Mobile carry a red required-field marker, while the Unit box does not. Apps get updated, so treat this as an observation from one app version, not an official rule.
Three things are easy to mix up when you fill in a unit number in Qatar: a property having a unit number, a form showing a Unit box, and a service requiring you to fill it in. A box on a form does not mean every property has a unit number. Also, MOI’s statement is about the National Address FAQ. It does not automatically apply to every other form or service.

The simplest way to remember unit number vs building number in Qatar: the building number is for the building, and the unit number is for one place inside the building. A villa on its own plot usually has a building number but may have no unit inside it.
What to Enter for Unit Number in Qatar
Enter a unit number in Qatar only if your property really has a separate unit identifier. The official sources we reviewed do not describe every housing type, so the table below is practical guidance, not a government rule.

If your home has no unit number: in the Metrash form we checked, the Unit box comes pre-filled with 0. MOI does not explain what that 0 means, so we cannot call it an official code for “no unit.” What we can say is that you should not replace it with a made-up number just because a box is on the screen. If a specific form or service still asks for a unit number, follow that service’s instructions or contact them.
Where Do You See the Unit Number Field?
The MOI FAQ says National Address registration is possible through Metrash2, the MOI website or the service centres. The FAQ still uses the older name Metrash2. The current app is called Metrash, so menu names may differ from the FAQ wording. The same FAQ says registration is mandatory for everyone.
To look up an address, Hukoomi’s My Address service lets you look up a residence address by street name, electricity number, zone name, neighborhood name, coordinates or building number. It does not list a unit number among those options. The Hukoomi page also states that no fees are required for this service

How the Unit Number Fits Into Qatar’s National Address
The National Address Section at MOI was established by Resolution No. 65/2019. Its aim is to move from the descriptive address to the digital address.
A Qatar address is made of several parts: zone, street, building or property, and sometimes the unit inside the building. The unit number is one possible part. It should not be treated as the same thing as the building number.
What If You Don’t Know Your Unit Number?
You can check these places:
- Your tenancy or rental contract
- Your landlord or property agent
- Building or compound management
- The door of your apartment or office
